What do a cancer researcher from New York City and a CEO from a biotech firm in Israel have in common? They are both concerned about the incredibly high rate of cervical cancer in low-resource countries. And now, through a grant from the Prevent Cancer Foundation with funds that you donated to the sixth annual Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) speedrunning fundraiser, the evaluation of innovative cervical cancer screening technology in Rwanda will take place.
Cervical cancer is a disease linked to poverty 
because 76 percent of new cervical cancer cases and 88 percent of deaths across the globe occur in developing countries with minimal resources to vaccinate, screen or treat women for this deadly disease.
The partnership between Dr. Castle and the Prevent Cancer Foundation was formed at the 2015 Dialogue for Action®, the Foundation’s annual conference. Ariel Beery, the CEO of biotech firm MobileODT, showed his cervical cancer screening device which is built on a mobile phone base. His invention caught the eye of Dr. Castle, a world-renown cervical cancer expert, who will now assess the technology’s ability to detect cervical cancer early. This evaluation is part of a larger study of cervical cancer in HIV-infected women in Rwanda.
Dr. Castle is a highly respected expert in cervical cancer screening, prevention research and implementation. He is a professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Global Coalition against Cervical Cancer.
