Five years ago, a perfect dream wedding was probably the last thing on Kim Read’s mind. Kim had been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer, affecting 23 nodes and requiring eight rounds of chemotherapy and six surgeries. She had even opted to have her ovaries removed after discovering that the cancer was hormone-related and linked to a genetic mutation. She was only 30 years old and single.
Today, Kim is cancer free, happily married and has been in remission for several years. She was also lucky enough to have her special day designed by wedding guru and Prevent Cancer Foundation board member David Tutera—all featured on this Sunday’s episode of “My Fair Wedding” on WEtv.
“Sometimes when you’re undergoing chemo you get so caught up in fighting for your life that you don’t realize that you can actually have that fairy tale happy ending someday,” said Kim.

Though nervous about handing over control of the wedding to someone she had just met, Kim trusted David to take over and work his magic. Extremely touched by Kim’s personal battle with cancer, David dedicated himself to making sure that her dream wedding was both joyous and unforgettable.
“I loved working with David—he personalized everything so much, down to every small detail,” said Kim. “I had read that he had done a lot of work with the Prevent Cancer Foundation, so I definitely trusted him to incorporate breast cancer awareness into my 1950’s Havana theme.”
Since the wedding, Kim and David have maintained a close friendship. “Everything didn’t just end after the show was over, we are definitely still friends and email back and forth regularly,” she said. Kim will be attending the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s 17th Annual Spring Gala as one of David’s special guests—an event designed by none other than the man himself. David has been designing the Spring Gala for over 10 years, and has generously designated the Foundation as his official “charity of choice”.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting other cancer survivors there; it’s so exciting to get involved and to start establishing a new relationship with the Prevent Cancer Foundation,” said Kim.
