Some people may have mixed feelings about video games but our minds are made up when it comes to Awesome Games Done Quick – they’re awesome. Awesome Games Done Quick, a live streamed 120-hour round the clock video gaming marathon organized by Speed Demos Archives and benefiting the Prevent Cancer Foundation, will take place from January 5-11 with 300 participating gamers on site and a global audience of thousands.
Awesome Games Done Quick is about playing fun games in unique ways at record-setting speeds to raise funds for cancer prevention and early detection. I’m not a video gaming expert; in fact, I’ve never even played a game. Here is what I do know: in order to solve the world’s problems, we need to take these “out-of-the-box” solutions and run with them.
It is easy to get hung up on the mundane details of life and fail to see the beauty and possibility. Awesome Games Done Quick is an annual reminder of why we do what we do at Prevent Cancer. We are in awe of the passion, drive and efficiency of this welcoming community. Every time we use the #AGDQ2014 hashtag on our social media channels, we get 50-70 retweets, favorites and shares within minutes.
Only genuine creativity, innovation and determination can turn an event that started in a small basement into a huge marathon raising $450,000 from 11,000 donations. The Awesome Games Done Quick story is inspiring and affirms the old but true cliché: Don’t be afraid to dream big. One great and outrageous idea and the tools to make it a reality can change the world.

This is a truly inspiring event! I love watching players destroy the games of my youth. I wish I could be a part of it, but the next best thing is getting to watch the event live!
