We all could use a few extra hours every day. Balancing multiple commitments can take a toll on our health as it’s tough to fit in exercise and eat healthy meals every day. Making healthy choices is crucial to reducing your risk for cancer and several other chronic diseases. May is Global Employee Health and Fitness and the perfect time to talk about easy ways to promote wellness in your workplace. With such busy schedules, here are some ideas to help you make easy choices while you’re at work.
Planning an upcoming meeting? Take your group out for a nice walk to add some steps to your day. Everyone will enjoy the change of scenery and walking will help everyone feel energized and creative.
In the beginning of every week, make a lunch plan for each workday. This will reduce your chances of making an impulsive choice on fast food or grabbing quick, processed foods on the go. Especially if you’re pressed for time at work, a plan will help you stay on track with a healthy diet.
If your office break room is full of sugary sodas, processed chips and candy, ask management to add healthy snack options. Keep nuts, granola, trail mix, fruits, yogurt, nut butters and other healthy snacks stocked in your office. The easiest way to stay healthy at work is to have healthy options readily available so you can skip the vending machines.
Sign your office up for the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s 5k Walk/Run and Health Fair. On Sunday, September 25, head to Nationals Park for a fun day walking or running for cancer prevention and learning about ways to improve your health at the Health Fair. You’ll also get to practice your swing in the batting cages, check out the dugouts and snap photos on the field.
