On Sunday, June 11, friends of the Prevent Cancer Foundation® gathered on a sun-drenched morning for brunch at the historic Norwood Club in New York City to learn about the Foundation’s recent activities.
My wife and I were honored to host more than several dozen people to discuss the Foundation’s Think About the Link® campaign, which aims to raise awareness and educate the public about the connection between certain viruses and cancer. Did you know more than half of adults are unaware the human papillomavirus (HPV) can lead to cancer if left untreated, and more than 70 percent of adults are unaware that the hepatitis B vaccine and treatment for hepatitis C can reduce the risk of liver cancer? For these reasons, Jennifer and I want to do our part and share this message with all of you.
Tony Award-winner and Think About the Link® spokesperson Marissa Jaret Winokur shares her story of beating cervical cancer.
The campaign’s national spokesperson and Tony Award-winner Marissa Jaret Winokur shared her experiences following her cervical cancer diagnosis in 2000. She talked about the fact that HPV is a common virus that can cause at least six types of cancer and is the cause of more than 90 percent of cervical cancers. Additionally, New York City Congressman Daniel Donovan (R-NY) offered remarks about his personal experience with cancer in his family while stressing the importance of prevention and screening to detect cancer.

Thus far in 2017, the Prevent Cancer Foundation® has sponsored events in New York City, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Houston, as well as this recent gathering in New York City―be on the lookout for an event near you. We’d like to thank the friendly staff of the Norwood Club for their hospitality and for welcoming us inside their beautiful setting to host such an important event.
