3 delicious drinks for Dry January

After indulging during the holidays, you may like to take some time to reset and start the year off with healthy habits. Participating in “Dry January”—or giving up alcohol during the first month of the year—has become a popular health trend.

Alcohol has been linked to several types of cancer and your risk increases the more alcohol you drink. Taking a step back from drinking is definitely good for your health, but giving up alcohol doesn’t have to mean missing out on your favorite beverages!

This Dry January, try these easy mocktail versions of your favorite cocktails (courtesy of Plated) so you can enjoy what you love and not feel like you’re missing out:

Bloody Mary

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces tomato juice
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • ¼ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon white pepper
  • 4 dashes hot sauce
  • Celery and lemon slices for garnish

Directions

  • Mix all ingredients together in a cocktail shaker and pour over ice. Add celery stick and a slice of lemon for garnish and enjoy!

Piña colada

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ice
  • ¾ cup pineapple juice
  • ¼ cup coconut milk
  • ¼ cup coconut cream
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or honey
  • Pineapple slices for garnish

Directions

  • Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. Add fresh pineapple slices for garnish and enjoy!

Hot toddy

Ingredients

  • 1 black tea bag
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • A pinch of ground cloves
  • A pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Directions

  • Add honey and spices to a mug. Steep tea with boiling water for 5 minutes, then pour into mug with the juice of half of the lemon. Add the remaining lemon and cinnamon for garnish and enjoy!
