Prevent Cancer Foundation Rings Closing Bell at New York Stock Exchange
Foundation celebrates 30 years of prevention and early detection with a new educational campaign

NEW YORK, NY—To celebrate the Foundation’s 30th anniversary and the launch of a new educational campaign, Think About the Link®, the Prevent Cancer Foundation® is ringing the closing bell of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on Friday, February 5, 2016.

The Foundation was founded in 1985, when prevention was not part of the mainstream conversation surrounding cancer. In the three decades since, the Foundation has brought prevention and early detection to the forefront of the fight against cancer. The organization has been referred to as “the candle that ignited a bonfire” in the field of prevention.

Today, the Prevent Cancer Foundation remains committed to its mission of saving lives across all populations through cancer prevention and early detection.

“We are honored to be a part of a rich tradition of ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange,” said President and Founder Carolyn Aldigé. “It is with the help and support of many corporations that are part of the NYSE that we have been able to fund $142 million in critical research, education, outreach and advocacy. We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with members of the NYSE for another 30 years as we work toward our vision to Stop Cancer Before It Starts!®”

The honor of ringing the bell will be given to Jan Bresch, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Prevent Cancer Foundation. She will be joined by Audrey Baldwin and Alexander Beck, whose mother passed away from cervical cancer, along with Foundation Board Members and guests.

Also joining the Foundation are Elizabeth Bowers-Nyman and Hilary Hansen of Merck. Merck is listed with the NYSE and is a sponsor of the Foundation’s new Think About the Link® campaign, a multi-year education initiative to raise awareness about the connection between certain viruses and cancer.
