On August 1, shoppers and cancer haters from Capitol Hill buzzed around a temporary “Hive on the Hill,” ruled by jewelry designer Queen Bee Designs who is well known in the D.C. area and beyond.
The Queen Bee trunk show offered a one day sale on all Queen Bee creations; a portion of the profits were generously donated to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Ladies buzzed in throughout the day — with highest volumes seen during lunch breaks and after work — to snatch up steals and deals. Popular items included vibrant summer coral and turquoise chunky necklaces, iridescent long beaded necklaces and one of a kind show stoppers made to enhance any woman’s outfit, day or night.
Queen Bee Designs is a longtime supporter of Prevent Cancer and its signature Congressional Families Program. In addition to hosting trunk shows to benefit the organization, owner/jewelry designer Allison Priebe Brooks has for the last few years created spectacular gift bag jewelry favors given at the annual Congressional Families Action for Cancer Awards luncheons held each fall. She expertly combines the Foundation’s green and grey colors resulting in classic mementos of the special bipartisan, bicameral event to inspire spouses in their efforts to fight cancer.
Alison, a former Senate staffer, took art classes at the Smithsonian learning to make jewelry for her own use. Her considerable talents had women asking to buy her jewelry right off her neck! Giving into the demand, Alison eventually decided to turn her hobby into a successful business and Queen Bee was born, to reign supreme. She has established a large and devoted following among female Members of Congress, spouses, staff, journalists and lobbyists around town.
