The Prevent Cancer Foundation® is saddened to learn of the death of Thomas K. Weber, M.D., our friend, Medical Advisory Board member and 2014 Cancer Prevention Laurels Award recipient for outstanding work in advocacy. Dr. Weber was widely known for his contributions in the fight to end colorectal cancer, as well as his efforts to raise awareness of early onset colorectal cancers that occur in individuals not to be considered at high risk due to age or family history.
Dr. Weber was a distinguished surgical oncologist and colorectal cancer advocate. He is credited with founding the nation’s first public colon cancer-focused event, the Colon Cancer Challenge, held in New York City annually since 2004. In 2008, Dr. Weber founded the Colon Cancer Foundation to reduce colorectal cancer incidence and related deaths through research, strategic partnerships and public awareness and education.
In 2014, the Prevent Cancer Foundation® recognized Dr. Weber at the Dialogue for Action on Cancer Screening and Prevention with a Laurels Award in advocacy for his outstanding achievement in cancer prevention. For many years, he was a member of the Foundation’s Medical Advisory Board, providing guidance and advice to the Foundation alongside other leaders in cancer prevention and early detection.
