A case of the common cold can disrupt your work life, your social calendar and even your exercise regimen. Sports medicine experts say brisk exercise is a good idea for minor colds but if you are running a fever or have flu-like symptoms they strongly advise skipping your workout, getting lots of bed rest and staying home to avoid spreading your germs at the gym. The important thing is to listen to your body, you may have to scale back your workout or exercise at home if you think you may be contagious. To maintain your healthy fitness goals and keep colds and the flu at bay, research suggests five days or more of aerobic activity per week can be a powerful factor in lowering your number of sick days.
