Annual Spring Gala Raises $1.4 Million for Cancer Prevention

March 15, 2012

The Prevent Cancer Foundation’s 18th Annual Spring Gala, Modern + Majestic = Switzerland, was held on Friday, March 9 under the gracious patronage of His Excellency, the Ambassador of Switzerland, Manuel Sager and his wife, Mrs. Christine Sager. The event raised over $1.4 million in support of cancer research and screening programs for women in underserved communities.

Congressman Michael Oxley (R-OH) was honored with the 2012 Cancer Champion awards for his contribution to advancing cancer prevention and early detection. More than 800 guests were welcomed into the National Building Museum by a half-dozen traditional alpine horns and guests were treated to dinner, dancing, a silent auction, and the beautiful voice of cancer survivor Julie Delgado. Her personal story and singing alone raised $23,000 through our “Lighting the Way to Prevention” fundraiser during the event.

David Tutera, Prevent Cancer Foundation board member, celebrity party planner and host of Wetv’s “My Fair Wedding” once again worked his magic and transformed the National Building Museum into a breathtaking celebration of the beauty and charm of Switzerland. David even solicited his Facebook Fans to donate funds to Stop Cancer Before It Starts!

A special thanks goes out to our Gala Chair, Joann Piccolo, and Dinner Committee Chairs, Nicole and Rick Rodgers, and all of our sponsors whose generosity made it possible to exceed our goal and ensure that cancer prevention and early detection continue to be at the forefront of the war on cancer.
