One thousand and five hundred walkers and runners and 112 volunteers made this year’s Prevent Cancer 5k the most successful yet – but not without the help of our generous sponsors.

LifeSpan Fitness has been the Prevent Cancer 5k exclusive fitness sponsor for the past two years. LifeSpan Fitness designs health and fitness products that can be used anywhere – at home, at the gym, at work or outdoors. Over the past two years, they have donated their signature treadmill desks and exercise bike as prizes for the top event fundraisers, allowing winners to continue to Stop Cancer Before It Starts!, even at work.

We recently caught up with owner and President Pete Schenk to discuss his company’s vision and involvement in the 5k. He  started his career at IBM as a National Account Manager and at American Stores as the Director of Strategy and Infrastructure. After years of a sedentary lifestyle, Pete decided to make a change. In 2002, he started PCE Health and Fitness. He has been continuously growing his business ever since, adding the LifeSpan Fitness arm to increase the overall life span of individuals. Peter lives in Park City, Utah, spending his summers trail running and rock climbing and his winter snowshoeing. Pete’s passion is helping not only his family, but everyone, live longer, healthier and more active lives.

Q: Could you tell us a little bit about Lifespan—what is the company’s ultimate vision and who are the products designed for?

A: Our ultimate vision is to give people the products and services they need to get and stay active and fit. Our products target the adult consumer who desires to exercise at home, at work or in the gym.

Q: How did you first get involved with Lifespan, and how does the company tie into your overall vision for healthier people?

A: When we created the brand it was to provide consumers looking to live long and active lives with high quality and yet still affordable products.

Q: How did the idea of the treadmill desk develop, and what impact can Lifespan’s products have on overall productivity?

A: The research was becoming increasingly clear that even if we follow the recommended weekly exercise guidelines, if we are sitting the rest of the day either in the office or at home, we are all at risk of many chronic diseases from heart disease to cancer. Increasing our levels of activity while at work is one of the best things that we can do for our long term health.

Q: Why does Lifespan continue to support the Prevent Cancer 5k and what do you consider to be the most important part of the event?

A: We have similar missions. We both want people to live long healthy lives whether we are healthy or living with a disease. Events like the Prevent Cancer 5k help educate and increase awareness.

Thanks again to LifeSpan and all of the amazing sponsors of the Prevent Cancer 5k Walk/Run. We couldn’t have done it without you!
